Music Master
Store all your audio in one place, in style.
It's time to get with the 21st century, put those CDs away and call up a playlist of your digital tunes using this classy Wi-Fi music server. It features a built-in 160GB hard drive for storing your music. It's simple to get tracks onto the drive- just download them from a PC over a Wi-Fi network. The device appears as a shared folder that you can drag and drop files onto. Alternatively, you can rip tunes directly via the sexy slot-loading CD drive. Plus there's an analog input so you can record directly from a record or a tape deck.
It plays a wide range of non-protected audio formats, and the audio quality is top-notch. Albums ripped using the machine sound impressive; a 128Kbps MP3 of Leftfield's Leftism is suitably aggressive with storming bass and treble. Navigating the library of tunes is relatively easy, as it's split into the usual categories of artist, album, and song title. You can skip through long lists by typing in letters SMS-style on the remote's keypad, but annoyingly the letters aren't printed next to the keys. And while the display is nice and bright, the text in the menus isn't big enough to be read easily from a sofa in a normal sized room. However, there are plenty of other features. The device acts as a Wi-Fi music server for other media receivers- as long as they're UPnP-compatible- so you can connect something like a Pinnacle Show Center to it and stream tracks from the units' hard disk. The CD drive can also be used to burn compilations and download tracks to an iPod via USB, or you can listen to Internet radio.
This is an amazingly versatile system that's packed with an exceptional range of features, and it's one of the best music servers around at the moment.
***** 5 Stars --- This is a brilliant versatile music server that sounds great and is easy to use.
