Olive recovery downloads & reinstall instructions

Reinstalling your operating system should only be done in rare instances and we highly recommend that you contact our customer support before taking this step.

Recovery files downloads

Reinstalling your Operating System on your Olive 4 means that you will erase all your music, the local CD database, playlists and personal settings (such as Favorites). We strongly recommend that you perform a backup on an external USB hard drive before you do a recovery. Please contact Olive support or read the instructions for BACKUP & RESTORE to get more details about this topic.


Olive 4 (via CD)


NOTE: Only works for Olive 4. For Olive 4HD do the USB-Recovery (see below).


Once you have downloaded it follow these steps:



Windows OS:

  1. Rename the file to "RecoveryCD.iso"
  2. Place a blank CD into CD-ROM, and use a CD/DVD burning software to burn an ISO Image

Mac OS:

  1. Place a blank CD into CD-ROM slot, and open the Finder. Go to the menu on the top panel and choose Go / Utilities
  2. In the opened window choose RecoveryCD.img on the left side of the window, then go to the menu on the top panel and choose Images / Burn (make sure that Verify burned data check box selected). Press OK to burn the ISO-Image to CD.

Follow instructions in the user manual to wipe the hard-drive of your Olive 4 and reinstall the Olive 4 software.



Olive 4HD (via USB stick)


NOTE: Only works for Olive 4HD. For Olive 4 do the CD-Recovery (see above).


Simply download both of the following files and copy them BOTH onto a USB stick. The USB stick must be formatted in standard DOS Format (FAT32). Simply copy the file from your download folder to the USB stick. Note that you should not double-click the downloaded file in your computer's download folder.



As a next step please turn off your Olive 4 (or Olive 2), press BOTH the CENTER and the DOWN button simultaneously and turn it on. Once the message on the LCD prompts you to insert the USB stick, please do so. The Software Update will automatically install and your Olive 4/Olive 2 will restart after this process is complete.


Software Recovery on your Olive 2 (via USB stick)


Software recovery on your Olive 2 cannot be initiated manually and the device will automatically prompt you to do a recovery if necessary. In the rare circumstance that your Olive 2 asks you to reinstall your Operating System, please download the following file and copy it onto a USB stick. The USB stick must be formatted in standard DOS Format (FAT32). Simply copy the file from your download folder to the USB stick. Note that you should not double-click the downloaded file in your computer's download folder.



Once the file is copied onto the USB stick, simply plug it into the USB port on your Olive 2 and follow the on-screen instructions. The Software Update will automatically install and your Olive 2 will restart after the update is complete.
